Ames Quilt Guild

Ames QUILT GUILD
Community Service

Current service opportunities include sewing touch therapy "fidget" quilts for dementia patients, and making weighted blankets for children with autism.  Please scroll down this page for more information about each.  Also, at the bottom of the page, see the pdf "AQG Resource List for Donations" for additional ideas of where quilts, quilting materials, etc. can be donated.

Touch Therapy Fidget Quilts

Beginning in 2016, the Ames Quilt Guild has made over 600 Touch Therapy Fidget Quilts, which have been donated to Mary Greeley Hospital, the Households of Bethany, Heartland Senior Services and Friendship Ark. These quilts are small lap quilts with activities to help calm dementia patients. Each quilt measures approximately 18 to 24 inches and includes such items as buttons, Velcro, zippers, pockets, and elastic, to keep the patient busy.

Fidget quilts may be delivered to Mary Greeley any time by dropping them off at the front desk using the south entrance.  Staff will make sure they are delivered to Medical/Telemetry.
